Datuk Dr. Jeya graduated from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1981 and initially worked at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and he later worked at the Klang General Hospital. Over the years, he has had extensive working experience and postgraduate training at major hospitals in New York, Singapore, London and Dublin.
Datuk Dr. Jeya has earned great distinction for research in the fields of Critical Care with an emphasis in both Pulmonology and Cardiology, both of which he has a strong interest.
In 1990, in recognition of his contributions to the field of Respiratory Medicine, Datuk Dr. Jeya was awarded the “British High Commissioner’s – Chevening Award” to pursue a postgraduate course in Thoracic Medicine at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute London. He completed his course in 1991 and became the first Asian to be awarded a distinction in that field by University of London.
To date, Datuk Dr. Jeya has presented more than 150 scientific papers in cardiology, pneumonias and asthma. He has also published papers in both local and international medical journals covering these topics.
Recognised as an international expert and opinion leader in these fields, he has been invited to chair local and international meetings both locally and overseas. He is also frequently invited to be a member of the international teaching faculty at many such meetings.
