Dr. Milton Lum Siew Wah

Dr. Milton Lum Siew Wah FRCOG, FAMM, a graduate of the University of Malaya, is a practicing Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

He is the Deputy Chairman of the Malaysian Mental Literacy Movement. He is also the member of the Malaysian Medical Council; the National Patient Safety Council; the Committee of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health; the Council of University Tunku Abdul Rahman; the Board of Governors of Perdana University; the Advisory Board of the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia; and the Board of Directors of Medical Defence Malaysia.

Dr. Lum had previously served as the President of the Malaysian Medical Association, President of the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners Associations of Malaysia, President of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia, Chairman of the Malaysia Representative Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Chairman of the Commonwealth Medical Trust, Vice President of the Commonwealth Medical Association and Executive Board Member of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

He was previously FIGO Visiting Professor, Deputy Scribe of the Academy of Medicine, and a member of the Boards of the National Heart Institute, Tung Shin Hospital, the Tun Tan Cheng Lock College of Nursing and the Social Security Organisation.

Dr. Lum is a regular columnist of the Star newspaper and a reviewer of the International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and the International Society for Quality in Healthcare.

Graduated with LLB Hons (2nd Upper) from University of Northumbria, Newcastle UK in 2005 and continued with Post Graduate Diploma in Bar Vocational Course and was awarded a Very Competent standing in 2006. Admitted as a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn, London in Year 2006, admitted to the Malaysian Bar in Year 2007.

Primary area of work is in civil dispute resolution with sub-specialty in Clinical Negligence, Breach of Confidence, Medical Product Liability, as well as Healthcare Ethics and a special interest in criminal litigation focusing on Medical Law such as Suicide, Abortion and Manslaughter cases.

Recently completed consultancy work for the Ministry of Health Malaysia in drawing up Informed Consent Forms for Ophthalmic Surgeries, is a committee member of the Law Revision Committee (AG Chambers) Latent Damage and Compendium of Personal Injury in Malaysia.

Regularly provides updates to doctors, hospital managers and other allied healthcare professionals on medical negligence cases, breach of confidence and product liability as well as medical law related to criminal offences.

Recently appointed as the Secretary of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia 2016/2017, a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Singapore, a member of the World Association for Medical Law and a member of the Malaysian Bar.

Future aspirations to set up an Institute of Independent Medical Experts.

Shanti Abraham has practiced as an advocate and solicitor since 1995 commencing her training in M/s Drew & Napier, practising with M/s Rajah & Tann in Singapore and thereafter continuing her practice as a partner of M/s Puthucheary in Kuala Lumpur.

Shanti holds an LLB (Honours) (National University of Singapore), a Diploma in International Arbitration and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb).

In 2015, Shanti set up her boutique practice M/s Shanti Abraham & Associates in Kuala Lumpur which focuses on corporate as well as dispute resolution matters with a special interest in medico-legal matters. She has advised stakeholders in the Insurance and Healthcare industry for over 15 years.

She has extensive experience in corporate and dispute resolution matters, having handled trial and appellate work in major corporate and commercial disputes as well as advising corporates on risk management and appropriate dispute resolution mechanisms.

Apart from being a litigator and arbitrator, Shanti is a Mediator both in Malaysia and Singapore. She has been appointed to the Panel of Mediators and Adjudicators of Securities Industry Dispute Resolution Centre (SIDREC) and the panel of mediators and arbitrators at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration.

Shanti completed the Program on Negotiation (Negotiation and Mediation) at Harvard Law School (Spring 2014) and is a Mediation Trainer with Singapore Mediation Centre and Malaysian Mediation Centre.

Dhinesh is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn, England. He holds a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge, and is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group of Shearn Delamore & Co, who are solicitors for the Medical Protection Society.

His areas of practice include representing medical practitioners and hospitals in medical malpractice litigation, and advising medical practitioners and hospitals on medico-legal issues. He also frequently represents medical practitioners in proceedings before the Malaysian Medical Council.

He is the President of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia, and a member of the IMU Joint-Committee of the Research and Ethics Committee of the International Medical University, Malaysia. He has authored and presented a number of papers on medico-legal topics at domestic and international conferences.

Dhinesh was named as one of the leading litigation lawyers in Malaysia in Euromoney’s 2007 Guide to the World’s Leading Litigation Lawyers, as a recommended Malaysian dispute resolution lawyer in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2009/2010) published by Legalease, England and as a Notable Practitioner in the Chambers Asia Pacific Guide

Harminder Jaila has a honours degree in law from the United Kingdom and graduated as a Barrister at law of Lincoln's Inn in 1988. He also completed a Master in Business Administration degree in general management in 2001. He practiced as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya from 1989 till 2000 and then took on the role as an in house legal counsel with DiGi Telecommunications. He moved to the healthcare industry in 2002 and worked as a Senior Legal Advisor in Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur for more than 7 years.

A graduate of the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London, Dr. Chong began her early career in the National Health Service, UK, following which she took a Masters in Business Administration at the London Business School. This was followed by a stint in management consultancy in the field of pharmaco-economics.

She returned to Malaysia in 1995 and has since been in hospital administration, starting at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare) as Director of Ancillary Services, then at the International Medical University as Project Director.

Professor Dato' Dr. Ravindran Jegasothy is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, MAHSA University, Kuala Lumpur. He had retired as the Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of O&G at Kuala Lumpur Hospital in mid-July 2014 after serving 35 years in the public sector.

Professor Dato' Dr. Ravindran Jegasothy graduated with the MBBS from the University of Malaya and currently is a Fellow of the Royal College of O&G, London. He has the Masters in O&G from the National University of Singapore and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia as well as the Indian Academy of Medical Sciences. He was awarded the Distinguished Community Service Award by the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) in 2003.

He has published extensively in many journals and has served on many technical committees of the Ministry of Health including the National Gazettement Committee, National Credentialling Committee as well as on the National Drug Committee. He currently serves on the Senate of MAHSA University and the Ethical Professional Practices Committee of the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia.
