Meet Stuart Hume

Stuart Hume is an international expert in the environmental and social management of industrial operations, with a particular focus on upstream oil & gas.  Stuart is currently an Environmental and Social Advisor to BP for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 Project in Azerbaijan (via URS), and is assisting the preparation of their Environmental and Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (ESIA).

After studying for an MSc in Hydrogeology and Groundwater Chemistry, Stuart moved to Southern Africa to supervise borehole drilling and aquifer testing operations in remote communities, gaining a first-hand understanding of rural livelihoods in fragile environments. Upon his return to London, he started work in the international oil & gas industry, focusing on the identification and evaluation of environmental and social impacts for upstream offshore and onshore operations.  

Since then, he has managed numerous ESIAs in accordance with international standards and has worked in over 20 countries including Qatar; Singapore; Tunisia; India; Nigeria; Egypt; Libya and the Russian Federation.
