Corrosion Principles & Control in the Oil & Gas Industry

Attending this workshop will ensure, you will:

  • have a solid understanding of the corrosion process, forms of corrosion and failure mechanisms

  • examine the impact of corrosion in the oil and gas production facilities and its consequences

  • identify and apply corrosion control and materials selection procedures to overcome corrosion issues

  • benchmark against modern technologies and best practices developed and implemented by leading companies and all the recent developments, applicability and limitations

  • be updated on the latest research and development of deep water material and corrosion

  • know how to develop and efficient, cost effective and holistic corrosion management programme

  • be equipped and ready to mitigate internal and external corrosion

  • benefit from real case histories

The workshop delivery:

Using a collection of case studies and discussions throughout each area of study, Dr. Fikry will facilitate this three-day course ensuring a comprehensive view of addressing and resolving corrosion issues. He will
also teach participants on how to use various models and approaches for corrosion measurement based on his vast experience as one of the strong leaders in the global corrosion engineering industry. He will ensure that participants leave with not only added knowledge but the right know-how for application to their daily work.

You'll be taking home:

  • A copy of latest best practices

  • A copy of engineering standards

  • A copy of the presentation by Dr. Fikry

  • Models of Failure Analysis

Meet Dr. Fikry F. Barouky

Dr. Fikry has over 35 years of proven experience in Material Engineering and Corrosion Control. His experience was gained as being a hands on Professional Engineer with key companies in Oil & Gas, Power Generation,
Water Industries and Mining, both nationally and internationally since 1974.

Armed with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Post-Graduate Diploma in Steel Making and a PHd in Material Engineering and Corrosion Science, Fikry has worked with Saudi Aramco (the world’s largest oil producer) providing technical support to all Oil & Gas upstream and downstream operations and projects.

He was the Chairman of the Protective Coating Standards Committee, through which he successfully introduced many new technologies and innovative solutions in protective coatings, that set a benchmark for
cost-effective performance and long-term plant integrity improvement.

Fikry is a key member in many professional associations and international standard committees. He has been and still is a regular participant in corrosion related conferences in Australia and overseas. He has written more
than 36 technical papers issued in international conference proceedings and has joint-registered two patents.

Fikry's Achievements

  • Successful achievements in identifying new generic high temperature FBE external coating for buried pipelines operating in severe conditions – which resulted in Saudi Arambo saving $6 million of capital expenditure for new pipelines projects in 2003.

  • Introduced the technology for internally coating heat exchangers tube bundles to support oil and gas operations in achieving reliable corrosion protection and cost avoidance in the operating budget of $3 million per year since 2004.

  • Recognized for his effort to develop a new coating system to internally coat pipelines and piping circuits achieving cost saving of $9.5 million in 2005.

  • Undertaken a value engineering to streamline and revise major engineering standards related to Paints and Coatings to make them user friendly.

  • For the pipeline projects and pipeline maintenance, he introduced the robotic coating crawler technology to internally coat the field girth welds of WIP projects. This technology added time saving elements and added value to the pipeline integrity through its long life expectancy.

  • He was a member in a task to study the Black Powder in Gas transmission and distribution pipelines and he provided technical support for a major gas project to study and resolve the top of line corrosion (TLC).
